Description
In 2013, Keenan and longtime friend/collaborator Ben Yonda released ‘Broken Brothers’, a 6-song split EP. It features 3 tracks apiece, each representing some lost tracks from the artist’s catalogs. ‘Take Me With You’ details what it is like to be left behind, and longing to venture where you know you don’t belong. ‘I Watched You Disappear’ is a long goodbye, where a friendship slowly turns into “steam pouring from the grate”.
Lyrics
Take Me With You
Take me with you, I’ll break in two. One half to wear around your neck, the other to come home to. Take me with you, I’m afraid of what you will do. We’re on the verge of something good and I wanna see it all the way through. There was a time you cried at the news. There was a time I tried to keep it from you. Take me with you, I’m government issue. There’s a war outside these doors and I don’t think you know what you’re getting into. Take me with you, just in case you continue drinking in the city’s sin and roaming like a lion on the loose.
I Watched You Disappear
It hasn't been the same since the time you went away. There's gotta be another day to reclaim. The steam pouring from the grate, the parking lot empty. It's the smell of gasoline I crave. So many times over the years I watched you disappear. I watched you disappear into some big idea. I watched you disappear. The battleship sank to the bottom of the lake, the water washed away the paint. I don't know what to say every time they ask me. It must be Mercury Retrograde? So many times over the years I watched you disappear. I watched you disappear into some big idea. I watched you disappear. I know how it seems, that we're making our own misery. Oh and that's alright with me. First to show and the last to leave. I watched you disappear. I watched you disappear, iInto some big idea. I watched you disappear.
Dark Place on the Map
Circling the old neighborhood as the winter days are growing shorter. Just like my mind, they couldn't decide whether to stay, to rain, to sleep, or to defy. Hammer in hand, prying open the paint cans reluctantly breaking up a house of glass. A dark place on the map. A dark place on the map. Visions of how it used to be. Capone's Poets up there on the balcony. Wandering and waiting patiently through fireworks, cursive words and smoke rings. Standing there in my old place under the overpass hung some Christmas lights, a horseshoe and an American flag. A dark place on the map. A dark place on the map. Hanging down at the Lady of Snows with the beggars, the borrowers in yesterday's clothes. Taking tickets from the windshields as we walked and staying up all around the clock. Your lady was in lamps and mine a tarot deck. Oh, how the years have gone and how quick they went. A dark place on the map. A dark place on the map
